By when

Clive welcomed the new members to the committee.

Minutes of the last meeting held 24/01/11 & matters arising

Minutes were agreed.

Andy reported that there had been no progress to date with regard to obtaining payment and key from the organization which used the Langdale hut in May.

Secretary’s Report

Kevan reported that all the documentation relating to the privies at Little Langdale was with the solicitor. A plan is to be drawn up showing privies and washhouse and rights of access. Chris Campbell has volunteered to draw the plan and knows the Land Registry requirements.

When all documentation has been passed on by Kevan, Rob is to draw up a list of outstanding actions.

Booking Secretary’s Report

The organization who have booked Stair at the time when it is required for a Ladies’ Meet will be asked if they are prepared to move to Langdale. Kev. asked if the problem will reoccur in 2012, and so Alan has undertaken to return to the next meeting with dates for ladies’ meets for the next three years.

Andy reported that only two weekends in August were left available in Little Langdale in 2011, and that thirteen weekends for Langdale and sixteen weekends for Stair were already booked for 2012. He is pushing those who make enquiries to extend stays into the week or to consider midweek bookings.

Membership Secretary’s Report

Mrs. Karen Purves was approved as an introductory member.

An application for full membership was received from Sam Sykes, but there was some discussion as to whether he had been on the required number of meets in order to qualify. Martin is to e-mail him to ask for details.

Langdale Hut Custodian’s Report

Chris reported that the stop-tap in the drying room has been repaired and the fire-extinguishers checked.

All intended tasks were completed on the last working weekend.

Mikala commented about the recent poor state of cleanliness in the hut, especially the cooker and fridge.

Darren raised the issue of a fire risk assessment for both huts, and Tim volunteered to carry this out.

Complete fire risk assessment for both huts

Weekend of 5/6 March

Stair Hut Custodian’s Report

The new water heaters have been installed in the Gents and the Kitchen and both are now working, the old system has been removed.

A new toilet still needs to be installed in the gents, and Andy H is looking at requirements here.

Mike is looking into whether an insurance claim can be made for the hut which has been destroyed.

BMC advise outbuildings not covered unless attached to building but Stair policy excess is £500 anyway.

Research appropriate toilet cubicle.

Social Secretary’s Report

Tim is to take over the organisation of the club dinner. Some members at the AGM wanted to change to a local venue. After discussion and a vote it was decided to leave the booking already made at Middle Ruddings in place for this year, and to explore possible venues on the Fylde in 2012.

Mike is to send an up to date membership list to everyone on the committee.

Done 1st March

Discussion took place about obtaining speakers of suitable climbing significance. Martin suggested Dave Birkett, who is interested in speaking to us, and he will contact Dave with a view to setting a date.

Tim requested that committee meetings start earlier due to his work commitments, but other committee members felt that they could not attend before eight o’clock.

Dinner and eight rooms have been provisionally booked at Middle Ruddings for this year, but some discussion took place as to why there is dwindling attendance. A suggestion is to send an e-mail questionnaire to members. No further discussion took place and this is an action to be considered at a future meeting.

Simon Duffy, an introductory member involved in a mountain leadership course wants to lead an FMC meet. The feeling was that he could be accommodated by leading an evening walk.

Martin Dale is organizing evening climbing and intends to send a questionnaire to members.

A gift of fifty pounds (Amazon voucher) is to be given to Mark and Judith Harding in recognition of their sterling work in organizing the dinner.

The Committee meal is to be on Wednesday 16 March. Mark and Judith to be invited.

Darren asked if the BMC website had been updated with committee changes. Rob will do this. Done 1.3.2011, reply received same day.

Darren also noted that the club website will need updating,

Rob will do this as soon as he has editing rights.

It was decided that the club would pay for the cash shortfall incurred on the recent Lagangarbh meet. The feeling of the meeting was that the risk of a loss had to be taken in order to ensure meets take place.

Rob suggested a schools’ membership initiative, but Martin thought more realistic links were with universities. He referred to the BMC’s initiative in pairing university clubs with mountaineering clubs. He will inform us of any progress on this.
