Bram Crag, if anyone fancies showing up?

Bollocks lads ive just seen this post. Can we make another trip there soon.

It’s snowing!

www.facebook.com/178035725541508/posts/3660169970661382/Good evening folks,
Some of the team out and about today have passed on a summit photo from Cairngorm.
Significant change from last weeks temperatures and a good covering of snow across high plateau.
Certainly time to be digging out the thermals, honing the navigational skills and adding those winter essentials to the rucksack like hat, gloves, head torch etc

FMC Evening Climbing – Thursday Evening

Blackpool Climbing Wall, Stanley Park Sports Centre, Blackpool.

We are going to try this out. There are however restrictions due to Covid. If you wish to go, you need to book a session either on line, or via an app. You can’t just turn up. Numbers are restricted to 12 in the wall, so if you find it’s full, tough! The bouldering wall is also open (5 people at one time). Sessions are for 2 hours in the wall (1.5 hours in the bouldering room). I suggest the best session for members to meet up is the 7:30pm one. The centre shuts at 9:30pm. The session before starts at 5:30pm. Pubs shut at 10pm! You also must be a registered user with a leisure card. You can however sign in a guest. Anyone not registered must undergo an assessment ( which may not be available on the night!). It may be better to arrange to go in pairs for the wall, although there are a number of inertia reels.

Hi Martin I’m up for this can’t make it this week but I can next week

I've missed placed my card, I'll give them a call tomorrow and let you know if I'll be turning up!

Well done for putting some oooomph behind this Martin 😊 Bloody hell it's complicated tho 😳

Anyone going?

Once we were in, a good night was had! Myself, Neil, and Iggi from the club attended. There were 2 other teams in but apparently it's the first time there have been that many in the wall for some time!

Stephen Clark they're still pretty conscientious about it at Awesome Walls. We were at the Stockport one last year and hadn't been for so long our credentials had run out so we were put through the practical test to belay and lower our partner. Since I was using a clickup (max rope dia 11mm) and Nick's 20 year old rope must've expanded to about 13mm it jammed and I failed! The (what appeared to me to be a) schoolgirl testing us generously allowed me to be tested again with my ATC XP and all was well. Phew! πŸ˜•

Just checking for interest! If we were to run an indoor wall meet this Thursday evening at Blackpool climbing wall, at Stanley Park sports centre, would you attend?

Me!

Never thought I'd say this but it's the best indoor (or outdoor) wall in Lancashire. How sad

Possibly but will there be a restriction on number?

Thanks for all the comments, but only Iggi has said he would turn up! Any of you others?

Hi Martin Dale – sad to say I've never climbed at the towers (😳) but can't do Thursday night. Thanks for the idea tho

I could make it

Sorry Mart – as you know – not really my bag at the best of times.

And now you'll have to check the details around the rule of six and indoor sport as well πŸ˜’

Thursday meet splinter group for those with all day to go at saw me, Nick and Wriggers at Pavey Ark on what can only be described as "the perfect climbing day". Weather perfect; sky without a cloud; air temperature ideal; breeze gentle; rock warm; chosen routes free of others; all this and in the company of younger chums who carried ropes and rack and did all the leading. Close to heaven! Pics limited but show strangers on Cruel Sister and Steve on Capella and Golden Slipper, Seems as though the romantic candle light in The Eagle and Child is a feature, not a power cut. Any way we got more of it, realising that to join the others in The Malt Shovel would have contravened "the rule of 6". See MoreSee Less

My Thursday Meet splinter group was stuck all day on a Disaster Recovery call at work…..if you think really hard Martin Bennett you'll remember that horrible W word

Wouldn't have contravened rule of 6 cos only 3 of us went to the pub! However, very jealous of your day out! Possibly the best enchainment of routes up one of the best crags in Lakeland!!

Capella and Golden Slipper thats a proper day out Simon on the rockπŸ˜€πŸ˜€

In hell for rubbing it in that you can get out whilst some of us are stuck working πŸ™

Bram Crag.

I don't know where I amπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Without me! How dare you!

…rowling end? 😁

And I couldn't come out to play πŸ˜•

Who was "we" today? And… Did you have another candle lit pint? πŸ˜‰

I was told you went to Gimmer! If it was Bram Crag you could have called me – I live about 15 minutes away!

We were heading for Gimmer Rob Lewis but at the ODG there was mist in the valley and also higher and a cool breeze. it was a hard decision – might it all burn off and be glorious up there (again!) or might it be belay jackets (I didn't have one with me) and white fingers (I already had those standing by the car!)? In the end we had coffee in Chapel Stile after which it was much the same so ended up in the warm sun at Bram. I didn't know your gaff was so close by.

Pleased you had a good day Martin – always difficult to know with Gimmer- have retreated to avoid being blown off in the past. We live about ten minutes north of Hesket Newmarket which has The Old Crown -listed in the Guardian as one of the best 50 pubs in England and a cooperative with its own micro-brewery. From Hesket it's easy to get to Mungrisedale and then on to Bram.

Hi Everyone,

Just had a friend bail on climbing tomorrow unfortunately. Is anyone keen for a last minute climb? I’m average 5-6a sport type but also have trad gear. Would definitely benefit from climbing with a more experienced climber. Would also be keen for scrambling as have the kit for it but haven’t done much!
Happy to drive 1-1:45hrs from St Anne’s so the lakes is fine for me.
Drop me a message please if you’re keen.
(Banana bread is in the oven so don’t want it going to waste…)

Hi Jake, hope someone will respond, quite a few of the active climbing members are away so please don't feel too out if no-one responds. Hope to meet up soon 😁

Another day Jake!

Just a bit too short notice…. I’m OK for tomorrow (Monday) if that’s any good?

Sorry Jake, can't help today. Try Nick Hepburn.

Hiya Jake Lloyd. Sorry I didn't see this yesterday. Another time maybe. And take no notice of the jocular bad press for Nick – you couldn't wish for a better guide and mentor.

Second Martin Bennett's comment about Nick Hepburn … he's mentoring me at the moment.

I'm sure I've been a few times whilst you've been a member? You just didn't want to come with me!!

You finally got there πŸ€—

Every credit buddy, too many secrets, or is it just too many places to see …….???

I've always said Torridon is amazing but then I'm relatively new to the club so boo hiss to the others!

It is awesome! When the weather is ok!

Any midges?

Been. Walked up one of the summits – I think – it were right misty and wintry. Never climbed on the triple buttresses but had designs on the big huge classic and also those upper East walls but… Only thing I know about it is a tip on pronouncing the name of Coire Mhic Fhearchair – apparently if you say "Corry f*ck Erica" you're not far off. 😏

I'll take any offers to go and do Angel Face or Seeds of destruction!!

Simon, make the most of it! Met Office have given snow on high ground on Tuesday!!

Hi, I’m Nikki. I’ve met a few members of the Fylde mountaineering club at West View. Sadly it looks like we will need to find somewhere else to climb as West View is unlikely to reopen. I’m keen to get out and climb and it would be great to meet and climb with some new friends. See MoreSee Less
