Nether Wyresdale Ramble

with No Comments

Summary: A route taking in arguably the best section of the Wyre Way, from Scorton to Abbeystead, and returning via Harrisend Fell and Wyresdale Country Park. A lovely riverside walk on the outbound section, and great views over Morecambe bay on the return.

Distance: 20km (12mlles)

Duration: 6-7 hours

Total Ascent: 340m

Parking: Scorton Picnic Site (OS Grid Ref: SD 5043 5040, W3W Locator: ‘steps.brownish.boards‘)

Refreshments: The ‘Apple Store’ at Wyresdale Country Park, and Scorton – please check opening times beforehand

Terrain and Obstacles: Moorland (boggy in places), rough tracks, grazing land and roads. Note that the Wyre Way has recently been re-routed in the area of Nan’s Brook & Wharf Wood; it now goes under the M6 through the river tunnel. There are the usual gates and stiles and boggy fields and tracks after rain.
