| As usual although the meet card suggests this meet will begin 7th February the reality is a little different – in fact it will end then! This year we’ll again have a change from the old favourite Cogne, instead heading for the area around Briancon. This district will be familiar to those who’ve enjoyed Clive’s recent summer meets or were on the ice meet 2007. |
Accommodation will be be in either gite d’etape (posh hostel) or apartments.
This will be booked once numbers are known ie when people have booked their
flights and let me know. We will stay either in La Grave or l’Argentiere la
Bessee. Either offers access to many many icefalls of all degrees of
difficulty (once you’ve accepted that NONE of them ever feel easy!).
Downhill ski-ing will be found without too much driving at such resorts as
Serre Chevalier, Montgenevre, Puy St Vincent, Risoul, Les Deux Alpes, Alpe
d’Huez and others.
What I suggest is that you should book the flights (details below) and let
me know as soon as possible so that I have a good idea how many to plan for
(it’s varied from 2 to 36 over the 9 years!). Then I’ll arrange
accommodation.
The flight is with Jet2 from Manchester to Chambery. If you don’t know
Chambery it’s roughly N of Grenoble and W of Lyon, and leaves a very short
drive in hire cars to our destination. Book on-line at Jet2.com . Outward
flight will be on Saturday 31st January. Return is a choice depending how
long you want to go for. Either Thursday 5th Feb or Saturday 7th Feb.
Details below. The price of the flights will vary depending on dates but
expect in the region of £90 to £120 once you’ve added charges, taxes,
baggage and debit card use. Oh, and this year the websites seem to be
talking about fuel surcharges.
