Ice Trip 2013 – Gignod

with No Comments

Saturday 26th January to Saturday 2nd February

This winter we will be staying in a rented house in a village called Gignod just North of Aosta. This venue gives the choice of climbing at, for instance, Val de Cogne, Valsavaranche, Val de Rhemes, Gressoney and others, as well as ski-ing at Pila, and short(ish) drives to eg La Thuile, Courmayeur, Champoluc, Cervinia.

The house can accommodate 18 people. The cost of the accommodation is dependent on the number of people but we will have to assume we get the 18 in which case it’s £75 per person for the week. I’ve already paid a deposit to secure the booking so as well as the flight cost you should budget £15 (again assuming 18 persons) for your share of that as soon as you can commit to the trip. The remainder will be payable during December.

Only a week since publicising the final details of this Winter’s icefall climbing meet I have to report that it is now fully subscribed. There’s space for 18 in the accommodation and we’ve 18 members committed to the trip. Bear it in mind still though, it’s been known in the past for events to overtake folk and they’ve had to drop out. Thanks for the excellent response, rapid decision making and flight booking, not to mention deposit paying (in many, but not all, cases!) and to John “What’s on?” Wiseman and Webmaster Ball for help with disseminating THE WORD! See you on the ice. MartinB

Here are details of the most appropriate flights:

Going out – Easyjet flight no 1951 Manchester to Geneva Sat 26th Jan at 13.00

Returning – Easyjet flight no 1954 Geneva to Manchester Sat 2nd Feb at 21.45

At the moment the flight is around £120 including 20kg bag and booking fee.

Suggest book as soon as possible – it won’t get cheaper.

To get on the meet:

Ring Martin Bennett (numbers on club list) to ensure the meet is not yet full, and to arrange to send your deposit or, if you prefer, the full amount of £75 so it’s all done in one go. Book your flights. Bear in mind that it could go up a bit if we don’t get 18.

We’ll organise transport nearer the time
